This unique Straw Wine style has now come across some of the most unique Muscat in South Africa, with vines that were planted in 1969. After being hand-selected, these special bunches finds themselves on straw mats, dried for two weeks until they reach the desired sugar levels. This insures that the already intense Muscat characters are even more concentrated. The raisin-like grapes are gently pressed and fermented in French oak barrels until the time is right to find its final resting place in this beautiful bottle.
There are only about 2000 bottles made each year and they get sealed with wax by hand.
This wine displays wonderful yellow stone fruit notes, honey and ripe citrus on the nose. It is balanced and zesty, with a lovely acidity. It goes wonderfully with a cheese board and it is interesting to see how different cheeses affect the viscosity of the wine.

Villa Esposto wine pays tribute to the many Italians who have played such a pivotal role in South Africa, not only in the field of winemaking but also in various civil engineering projects. In particular, it pays homage to Louis Theodore Esposto who arrived from Italy in 1914 and the Italians who built the water canal that today is a vital “fountain of life” in the wine growing region of the Olifants River.
