A blend of 92% Syrah and 8% Grenache Noir. The Syrah is planted on schist soils and the vineyard produced only 2 tons/Ha in 2023. The bunches were tiny and created a wine that is deeply concentrated. The Grenache Noir is planted on deep red soils rich in iron. The
combination of the beautiful grapes they received provides the final blend with an exceptional perfume and elegance.
The Syrah was 100% whole bunch fermented and aged in big 500L barrels. The Grenache Noir was destemmed and aged in small barrique. Both components were left to start fermenting naturally with one pump over performed daily. The components were blended after ageing in old French oak.
ANALYSIS: ALC 12.5% | RS 1.6 g/l | TA 5.4 g/l | pH 3.73
This wine about discovering new places and reaching new heights. The three leaves on the right showcase the number of cultivars in the blend while the school bag, athlete and fisherman all suggest how we always have high hopes when we try something new or when we go out to achieve something great. Lukas is also a keen fisherman who always has high hopes when he goes out for the day with the hopes of catching dinner. In the background is Lukas’s profile with a map of the Swartland with the wheat also symbolizing the origin of the wine as it is widely cultivated in the Swartland. The wheat stalk has also been added to give tribute to the Swartland where a lot of wheat is the main crop for most farmers. In the summer, when the wheat harvest has been removed from the fields, the dormant fields give the countryside it’s “black” look and that’s where the term Swartland hails from.
