45% Verdelho, 19% Chenin Blanc, 15% Alvarinho, 11% Palomino and 10% Fernão Pires
The Verdelho is grown in koffieklip-rich soil found anchored on the foot slopes of the Helderberg Mountain; the Chenin blanc is located in an exceptional Paarl vineyard; the old vine Palomino is grown in Piekenierskloof sandstone; Alvarinho on gravel in Wellington; and Fernão Pires is from the gravelly soils located along the Breede River.
The grapes were delicately wholebunch pressed and naturally fermented 3rd fill and older French oak barrels, only the free run juice was used. The wine was allowed to mature on lees for 9 months prior to botling, unfiltered.
A voluptuous Cape Blend that brings forward a medley of explosive aromatics. Aromas of neroli, preserved lemon and toasted brioche. The richly layered, and expressive palate is kept in line by a searing acidity finishing with a playful zest.
Don’t fret, you don’t need to wear your khakis when drinking Khakibos. Tagetes minuta was dubbed Khakibos (khaki bush) by the Boers in South Africa because of the khaki uniforms the British troops wore during the Anglo-Boer War.
Khakibos (Tagetes minuta), is a newcomer to the Cape winelands, much like the offbeat Iberian varieties in this unique white blend. Boldly selected to produce a distinctive expression of the place we call home. A lively, fresh fusion from the Cape. – Thistle & Weed
