This is the block right in front of the tasting room at Sijnn and they have bottled a few vintages on their own in the past. It’s a big bold rich variety that they feel can dominate their blend if more than about 15% or so. As the vines have matured (now 17 years old), more Malgas characters are found and less overt Viognier characters resulting in them being more relaxed about how much is included in the blend. Despite the intensity, this wine is beautifully nuanced like few others.
Lush gold colour in the glass. Rich apricot, nutty nose with a lively freshness. Beautiful burnt orange and mineral palate. A fine and balanced acidity, well integrated with the wood. Lovely peach pith, apricots and nuttiness. Loads of texture on the nose and palate, expressing true viognier.
It is really expressive of the area and it captures the cooler dry area of Malgas.
Paired best with most rich dishes ranging from Risotto to Fish and even good with Lamb.

“The focus has always been on our signature Red and White blends since our first vintage in 2007. Producing the very best expression of each vintage with the exceptional fruit we get from our extra ordinary vineyard and the many well adapted varieties we’ve planted.
We have become increasingly excited with many of these varieties and how they express themselves in our Malgas environment on their own. So, we’ve bottled a few to share with you what we find so exciting in the barrel. Just two or three barrels of each. Many of these wines come from the great 2021 vintage.” – Sijnn Wines
