This Merlot showcases quintessential varietal expression, owing to its cool climate, terroir and minimal intervention winemaking approach. Slow ripening of the grapes ensures that sugar, pH, acid and fruit elements are seamlessly poised, resulting in an elegantly balanced profile. Expect to encounter exquisite earthy tones alongside sun-ripened black cherry and plum characters. The wine shows a firm tannic backbone that is well integrated within its voluptuous body, while natural acidity adds freshness and focus to the palate.
It is full of power and multiple layers of aromas and flavours. Dark berries, ripe red cherries and plum as well as beautiful bouquet garni, complex and earthy however retaining a beautiful freshness. This is a beautifully balanced wine with power and nuance.

The name Shannon pays homage to the owner’s ancestors who come from Irish descent. Located in the Elgin Valley within the Kogelberg Biosphere, Shannon Vineyards’ unique terroir speaks for itself. With the Peninsula Dam creating the eastern boundary of the farm, the vineyards experience a cooling blanket of mist which is such a great geographical influencer on the farm’s climate, that Shannon has included the river mist in their logo. As such, the winemaking follows a minimal intervention approach to allow the different terroirs to be expressed in the wines.
