Saurwein Chi Riesling 2024

R248.00

2024 marks the 10th vintage of Saurwein, and also the first vintage Jessica made in her own cellar on their farm Waterval near Stanford. Quite a milestone indeed.

For this vintage, a new Riesling vineyard from the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley was added. This fruit makes up 40% of the blend and replaces one of the two vineyards from Elgin, which offered similar generous yellow blossom and stone fruit aromatics. The heart of this wine is still the coastal Elgin site, Casey’s Ridge farm,  which Jessica has been using since inception. It offers the delicate floral aromas and the taut core of acidity and texture on the pallet.

2024 was a challenging, wet vintage, but the fruit remained healthy and the wine is bright and relatively light. The typical floral and fruity Riesling character promises to intensify during the first year in bottle. The beauty about this off-dry style is that it can be enjoyed young as the drinking pleasure amplifies over time.

Floral aromas with white musk, spice and talcum powder notes. It’s unmistakably Riesling, with a friendly palate, yet taut finish. – Corlien’s  notes
