Restless River Main Road & Dignity Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

R763.00

The two vineyard blocks used for this wine is kept separate from picking through blending and aging in barrel for 2 years. Any barrels that are not of the highest standard will be omitted from the final blend. The uniquely long hang time of 130-160 days from flowering to picking helps with the development of fruit flavours without a steep increase in sugar levels. The result is a wine with low enough alcohol, high enough acidity and incredible fruit concentration.

“Moreish berries, graphite and kelp note, salted caramel/coffee and an amazing long finish with aniseed tannin mouthfeel. What a wine!” Corlien’s notes

Tim Atkin: “Named after the two blocks that supply its raw material, Main Road & Dignity is a very rare example of a varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from the Hemel-en-Aarde region. Picked late in a cool site, it has cassis, bay leaf, fresh herb and damson flavors, grippy tannins, appealing zip and freshness and the concentration to age. 2025-32. 94/100”

Description

Craig and Anne Wessels started planting vines in 1999 and since have become well known as one of the premium producers in the valley. The valley is well renowned for its cooler climate and the Wessels believe it is fundamental that their vines reflect this distinctive, marginal environment in which they grow; passing their unique characteristics onto the grapes, and ultimately, the wine.

Majority of planting happened from 2019 till 2022, with mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir being added to the existing vineyards. This is a huge investment and a lot of hard work. But for the Wessels family that’s what it’s about. Only the best goes into bottle, therefor the attention starts in the vineyard, from planting till maturity and eventually harvesting. Making sure that the best possible grapes end in the cellar so that the best possible wine can get to bottle after years of hard work.
