As winemaker, Stephanie Wiid says, “We’re not winemakers we’re winegrowers or rather, storytellers. There is nothing more exciting or nerve-wracking than to stand back and to see the story of place unfold in every bottle.”

At Wine Menu, we’re also storytellers. Telling the stories we hear from farmers, winemakers, land owners, and dwellers of wine cafes and tasting rooms. Just like there are many hands involved in bringing wine to our glasses, so there are many stories told around these wines. It’s like sitting around a camp fire sometimes, just trying to absorb the beauty of it all.

The story of this Verdelho is one of luck and good fortune. Stephanie makes a rather famous wine, Thistle and Weed Khakibos, which is a blend of Verdelho with some other varieties. The Verdelho grapes are from the lower slopes of Helderberg and forms the backbone of her blend. In 2022 the grapes were so good, she made a bit more than what’s really needed in Khakibos. One fortuitous meeting between Stephanie and Corlien brought up the story of this extra wine. Corlien loves a mineral wine that’s good for any occasion and there’s a huge amount of love for all Stephanie’s wines too. A batch was bottled separately exclusively for Wine Menu under the Omnivine name and we can’t be more ecstatic with the result.
