Glen Heatlie The Frontier Grenache Blanc 2022

Time for something new…

We’re so excited to introduce you to Glen Heatlie ‘The Frontier’ Grenache Blanc 2022

Joan Heatlie, the lady behind this exceptional wine hails from their family farm under the beautiful Hexrivier mountains. She started her own little wine company in 2017 after several years gaining experience at top producers like Reyneke and Mullineux, as well as in France. Winemaking, today, is only a part time hobby, while looking after the finances of the family business.

Her focus is purely on Grenache Blanc, with grapes for this vintage sourced from Piekenierskloof. Picked in two batches, an early picking to retain freshness, the other for fruit and texture.  Both batches are whole bunch pressed and settled overnight with no enzymes.  Racking the next day, with as much fine lees as possible.  Spontaneous primary fermentation and MLF, followed by 9 months aging sur-lie. The experimental twist, that is now the standard practice for Joan, is to add extra lees from another producer’s Chenin Blanc to the wine and leave for another 3 months. After bottling the wine is deliberately aged for another year in bottle before release for all the textures and flavours to marry.

The result is a pleasure to all the senses. Peaches and cream, freshly cut flowers, sugarsnap peas, basil stem and lemon zest. It’s a textural experience with mouth coating creamy notes, yet a clean finish with perfect acidity balance.

Only 596 bottles produced in 2022.

Don’t miss out on this newish kid on the block. With so little produced it’s sure to not last long on our shelves.
