This wine comes from vines planted in 1937, the oldest on the estate and situated south of the Bouzeron appellation and facing west, grown on a plot of 83 acres with clay and limestone marl soil. The local clonal variety (Aligoté Dorée) differs from the typical Aligoté grown on the Côte d’Or, with a yellow skin as opposed to green, and is typically “sweeter” at harvest. The vineyard’s indirect exposure to the sun throughout the growing season ensures the grapes have a long, slow maturation, which is ideal for an early-ripening variety like Aligoté. The resulting wine is stony and structured, with underlying ripe fruit flavours of yellow citrus and green apple.
The wine offers a subtle and delicate nose, featuring citrus, white flowers, and mineral notes. It’s an expressive and delicious white wine best enjoyed in its youth, but with potential for aging in a good cellar for a few years.
Nestled in the heart of Burgundy, the villages of Rully, Mercurey, and Bouzeron, part of the Côte Chalonnaise, naturally extend the renowned Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Viticulture in Rully dates back to antiquity, further refined by the Benedictine monks of Cluny from the 9th century until the order’s decline in the 18th century.
In 1971, Paul Jacqueson joined his father and gradually took over the estate, continuing the work of improving quality and building a loyal following. In 2006, Paul handed over the reins to his daughter, Marie, and in 2015, to his son, Pierre, who are committed to preserving the family tradition. Today, the estate spans 18 hectares, primarily in Rully, with additional plots in Mercurey and Bouzeron, producing 55% red wines and 45% whites.
