This crafted Chenin is meticulously grown in the cool Elgin Valley and a small portion from old bush vines in Stellenbosch. The wine is fermented in handmade, old world, traditional clay amphorae and some neutral oak. These key attributes afford a wine with broad layers of ripe pears, fresh stone fruit and white flowers on a canvas of flinty, wet stone that contributes to the overall texture.

What began as a festive three-barrel foot stomp event attended by a handful of friends on a south peninsula beach in 1996, produced a very palatable Syrah, and saw the founding in 1997 of the first true micro-winery in the Western Cape with Pinot Noir the focus. The aptly named Barefoot Wine Company trading as Catherine Marshall Wines has long outgrown its humble origins to become a legendary institution and exporting to most wine consumer destinations world- wide.
