Elizma has been winemaker at Olifantsberg for nearly a decade. Originally she and husband Ferdi focused on getting to the know the vineyards and finding the balance in the cellar. Since about 2016 they have embarked on establishing some new vineyards on these special slopes in the Breedekloof Valley.

The focus on quality is a strong thread throughout all the wines. In 2021 Tim Atkin named Elizma Young Winemaker of the Year in his annual report, making her the first female winemaker to receive this accolade. Every single wine in the portfolio scored 90+ points. She says: “I have been investing a lot of my energy into our vineyards in the past five years and the wines speak for themselves. I believe that you can “grow” really good wine but there is also a little bit of “magic” needed to create wines that score above 94 points.”

Recently Elizma launched the new look for Olifantsberg with the flagship white and red named Soul of the Mountain. The Matriarch 2019 is a blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Chenin Blanc and The Bull 2018 is a blend of Syrah, Carignan, Mourvédre and Grenache Noir.
