Situated in an elevated valley of outstanding beauty, Oldenburg Vineyards is surrounded by a spectacular mountain amphitheatre. At the heart of the farm lies Rondekop – their iconic, round hill which influences the vineyards planted on and around it, creating extraordinary terroir.
In recent years we have seen Cabernet Franc as a single varietal bottling more and more. For many years we could count the producers who embraced this varietal on one, maybe two hands. Traditionally one of the permitted Bordeaux blend components, but usually in smaller percentages than the better known Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and therefore never quite the one to get the shine.
At Oldenburg the focus on Cabernet Franc has increased over years, with the component in the Rhodium blend increasing into a leading role.
Join us as we taste two verticals, with wine maker Nic Van Aarde, from Oldenburg’s wine library:
Cabernet Franc 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018
Rhodium Blend 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018
