Chardonnay originates from the famous Burgundy region of France, and today is grown in almost every wine making country in the world. The oldest Chardonnay vineyard in South Africa dates back to 1981 and it’s generally known that the “stokkies” were smuggled into South Africa from Burgundy and Switzerland. In those early years, South Africa followed the rest of the New World, with the excessive use of oak and ripe fruit flavours. We have come a long way though and in more recent years we have seen a movement towards fresher styles and a focus on reflecting terroir. Today South Africa is proudly ranked among the best in the world.
Chardonnay can show many different styles with ease, from ripe and creamy to fresh and lean. There truly is a style for each one of us, and the only way to find that style is to taste extensively and widely. With this tasting we offer you the opportunity to explore Chardonnay from various regions around the world.
Join Tom Prior and Corlien Morris through the line-up below. Corlien will add 2 more Chardonnays of her choice from South Africa. It promises to be an evening of interesting conversation in the interest of education.
