This vineyard was planted in 1983 on granite soils in the Swartland. A beautiful old bush vine, dry land vineyard.
Grapes were carefully hand-picked in the early hours of the morning at optimal ripeness.
The grapes were de-stalked, crushed and pressed; the juice was allowed to settle overnight. 90% was fermented in stainless steel tanks and 10% in (2x500L) French oak barrels. Extended lees contact took place for 3 months post alcoholic fermentation, enhancing the depth and character of the wine.
A small portion of the wine was barrel matured and blended with the stainless steel tank portion for added complexity and richness.
Aromatic nose filled with a vibrant mix of tropical and stone fruit notes, including peach, pineapple, papaya, ripe citrus, and bruised apple notes. On the palate, these flavours follow through seamlessly, perfectly balanced with a zippy acidity and a subtle oak component that adds an extra dimension. Its profile is very linear and focused, with abundant tropical fruits and a citrus lift on the finish.

Roodekrantz commemorates the Greek mythology where Apollo was wearing a laurel wreath, Laurus nobilus, on his head to symbolise victory. Our wines embrace nobility and victory.
Roodekrantz is a boutique producer specializing in crafting artisanal site-specific wines. Most of the vineyards they source grapes from is in the Swartland, but not limited to the region only. What is important however is the use of old vineyards, ie at least 35 years of age. Our vision is to understand and nurture the vineyards with which we work, and to do everything in our power to keep these vineyards alive and in the soil. Our approach to winemaking is to be truthful in what we do and to express a sense of place in each bottle we produce.
