Abrie Beeslaar is undeniably one of the great winemakers in the Cape’s modern history. Having received the International Wine and Spirit Competition’s award for International Winemaker of the Year an astounding three times.
Fate would have it that this Wellington local would forge a lifelong friendship and shared passion with the “King of Pinotage” Beyers Truter. Something red wine lovers, especially those who appreciate South Africa’s national grape Pinotage, should be grateful for.
Abrie’s career progressed positively. Well, that’s a slight understatement, as he was offered the task of winemaker at Kanonkop Estate before the age of 30 – a monumental opportunity.
In 2011, his dream of making a truly unique Pinotage from a site-specific vineyard, was realised when he was offered the opportunity to work with grapes from a unique parcel of land in the Simonsberg region outside Stellenbosch. Beeslaar Wines was born.
