The Single Vineyard – Le Luc is Pinot Noir on granite and clay soils, with vines established in 2013. Situated on north-facing mid-slopes at 270m, the vineyard spans 2 hectares and is planted with clones 113, 115, and 777, with Guyot training. The grapes are destemmed, with 10% of the fruit left as whole clusters and the remainder whole berry. Fermentation occurs in open-top fermenters with spontaneous fermentation. A combination of gentle pump overs and punch downs is used to extract flavor and texture. After fermentation, the wine is basket pressed and aged for 12 months in 228 litre barrels, 30% of which are new. The wine is then transferred to stainless steel for 3 months before bottling and rested for an additional 18 months in bottle before release.

Craig and Anne Wessels began planting vines in 1999, and since then, their winery has earned a reputation as one of the valley’s premium producers. Known for its cool climate, the valley offers a unique growing environment, which the Wessels believe is essential to the character of their wines. They are committed to ensuring that their vines fully express the distinctive qualities of this marginal terroir, transferring these traits into the grapes and, ultimately, the wine.
The majority of planting took place between 2019 and 2022, with a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, complementing the existing vineyards. This represents a significant investment of both time and effort. For the Wessels family, however, it’s all about quality. From planting to maturation and harvesting, every step is carefully managed to ensure only the best grapes reach the cellar. Their dedication to excellence ensures that after years of hard work, the very best wines are bottled, reflecting the true essence of the land.
