Join us as we celebrate Madame May de Lencquesaing, the formidable lady who saw the potential of Glenelly in Stellenbosch back in 2003.
Stellenbosch is known as South Africa’s Cabernet Sauvignon capital and as such, most of the iconic Bordeaux style blends from South Africa naturally comes from this region. Glenelly, situated on the lower slopes of the Helshoogte mountain in the beautiful Idas Valley, is no exception. Lady May is Glenelly’s flagship Estate wine, crafted from vineyards planted on a cool east-facing slope. It’s elegant, distinguished, and venerable – just like its owner.
From the maiden vintage, 2009, it was always a Cabernet Sauvignon led blend, with a small percentage of Petit Verdot. 2010 saw the addition of Merlot and later Cabernet Franc also started making an appearance. The blend is not the same every year, as it all depends on the quality of all the building blocks each vintage.
We’ll start the evening at 5:30pm with snacks and a glass of Glenelly Le Rosé de May on the deck
Followed by tutored tasting by cellarmaster Dirk Van Zyl including the following wines
Glenelly Estate Chardonnay 2022 and 2019
Glenelly Estate Red 2017 and 2011
This will be followed by a tasting of 6 vintages Lady May
2011, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019
Limited bottles of each of the 6 vintages will be available for purchase on the evening.
