Yves Cuilleron is, above all, a family estate. A passion for wine has been in their genes for three generations.
They own 75 Ha down the Rhone from Côte Rôtie in the north to Cornas further south.
Yves pays extra-special care to the quality of his vines. His vision of viticulture is highly personal: not conventional, not organic, and not biodynamic. He has a simple philosophy: “Grow the best possible grapes.” “As our vineyards cannot be mechanised, much labour is required and the vines receive “haute couture” treatment.”
Vignes d’à Côté refers to the geographical location of the vines located next to the Grands Crus of Rhône Valley. The vines are located in the great terroir in Chavanay. Grapes are hand-picked, sorted, crushed and partially destemmed before natural fermetation in open top vats for about 3 weeks. Regular cap-punching and pump overs to keep the skins healthy. Matured for another 7 months, 50% barrels and 50% in stainless steel tanks.
“This is one of those Syrahs that you want to drink regularly, and at the price it’s very possible. It’s bright and sexy. Touch of black olives and dried herbs laced with delicious fruit. Such an easy wine to understand and a great introduction to the beauty of Rhone.” – Corlien
