Koelfontein is the only wine producing farm in the Ceres Valley, therefore the only wine carrying the WO Ceres demarcation proudly.
The first Shiraz was produced from this farm in 2004, by Dewaldt Heyns, winemaker at Saronsberg. Dewaldt is still responsible for this award winning wine nearly 2 decades later.
The maiden vintage surprised SA, by claiming the runner-up position in the then Shiraz Challenge. This wine achieves high praise every year, with the most recent vintage release, 2019, achieving a spot in the Top 12 Shiraz Challenge in July 2021. Following in the footsteps of 2018, who achieved the same accolade in 2020.
A bright & inviting wine, with alluring spice. A medley of berry and cherry flavours laced with herbs and dried orange rind. A full-bodied wine, with a firm tannin grip. Yet a fresh lift on the long finish.
