The wine opens with an attractive nose of cherry and raspberry sherbet. This is followed by aromatic pops of Madagascan pink peppercorn and fennel. Beneath the fresh, bright façade, more brooding currant elements provide added depth. On the palate, delicate seams of fresh red cherry and strawberry fruit are sewn over fine grippy tannins. As the fruit fades, the aromatic pink peppercorn spice, and deeper touches of fennel emerge once again.
The 2023 vintage was a splendidly smooth ride for Elgin vignerons. Winter was delightfully cold, ensuring deep dormancy for the vines. As winter retreated, spring arrived, bringing with it even budding on the vines. Rainfall was slightly lower than the previous year, but even this was useful, as it lowered vigour in the vines. Lower vigour, in turn, reduced disease pressure, and made canopy management far simpler. Even the December rains had no negative impact on the quality of fruit, as the cool season allowed another two months of hangtime after the rain.

Marrying Old World refinement with New World vivaciousness, this handcrafted wine pays tribute to the memory of Moya Meaker, a woman whose sophistication and elegance remains our guiding light.
Elgin is a valley in the sky; a lofty plateau hemmed in by mountains, covered by a blanket of clouds, cooled by ocean breezes, and couched in soils of shale over clay. This wine haven is South Africa’s coolest wine region and home to some of its most celebrated Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.
When David and Genevieve Curl purchased an apple farm in the Elgin valley in 2010, they immediately planted a 3.12-hectare parcel of Pinot Noir on a ridge with ancient of clay-rich Bokkeveld shale. Clones 667 and 777 on rootstock 101-14 were chosen to capitalise on Elgin’s cool climate terroir. Focused on the ultimate goal of crafting small quantities of premium Pinot Noir, the vineyard’s planting density of 6250 vines per hectare encourages stiff competition between the vines, resulting in better flavour and concentration in the fruit.
