Swerwer Red Blend 2021

R273.00

“This is a wine with natural purity and elegance. The cooler 2021 vintage resulting in even more finesse and austerity. It is unbelievably drinkable thanks to Cinsault and Grenache contributing to more than 85% of the blend. Delicate rose petal leads to fresh berry and aromatic fynbos aromas. The palate is loaded with juicy red and dark berry fruit and an earthy edge of pomegranate and black tea. Tinta Barocca completes this traditional Swartland blend by adding darker tones and a fleshy and dense structure with gripping tannins, finishing fresh and tight. A unique and charismatic wine, quite pleasurable in its youth, but worth the wait with further aging.” – Jasper Wickens

A blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Tinta Barocca, Jasper describes his experience with these varieties as a love affair. Originally these grapes were sourced from other vineyards, but now all are sourced from the valley in Swartland. This wine can present itself as a bit of a conundrum. It is fresh and vibrant, something one could open on any occasion, however, its balance, concentration, and fine tannins as you engage with it a little more also makes it a great finalist for any serious wine occasion too. This guy can hold it’s own, there is no doubt. Even though we would consider this a light energetic wine, it packs a flavourful punch and is undeniably delicious and sophisticated (all at once).
